Jenna Ortega, Wednesday’s leading lady, acknowledged she was disappointed that she couldn’t appear in the new season of You.
In the second season of the frightening Netflix thriller, the 20-year-old played Ellie Alves, who befriended homicidal maniac Joe Goldberg (Penn Badgley).
Soon after, she was cast as Wednesday Addams in Tim Burton’s series, in which the character must stop a murdering spree terrorising the town while also solving a 25-year mystery surrounding her parents.
The Addams Family spin-off became a highly lauded success, setting the record for the most hours seen in a week by an English-language TV series on Netflix.
Sara Gamble, the show’s creator, previously stated that she attempted to get Jenna for season four, which was set in London, but the star was too busy channelling the renowned morbid adolescent at the time.
During Sunday night’s Screen Actors Guild (Sag) Awards, the Jane The Virgin actress told Entertainment Tonight: ‘I was devastated. Easily one of my favourite sets I’ve been on.
‘I was so so devastated. I miss Ellie, and I’ve been wanting to go back to Ellie for a long time, but I was in Romania shooting Wednesday.’
While we expect to see Ellie Alves return soon, Jenna has a lot coming up, including the next episode of Scream, which follows Tara (Jenna) and her sister Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera) as they move from Woodsboro to New York.
Jenna revealed to Entertainment Weekly what horror fans may anticipate, explaining that her character had to deal with her’suffocating’ sibling as well as Ghostface’s attacks.
‘At the top of the film we see my character Tara avoiding her trauma and desperately trying to reclaim her teenage experience and become normal college student,’ she said.
‘There’s a lot of tension between her and Sam, she feels as though she’s too protective and unwilling to allow them both to move on. She feels suffocated.’
You is available to stream on Netflix, and part 2 premieres on Thursday March 9.
