From matte polish to daisy prints, the world of nail art has been an eclectic one over recent months.
Since salons reopened earlier this year, we’ve been keen to treat ourselves to some brilliant manicures.
But bolder doesn’t necessarily mean better.
Minimalist designs may be simple, but their delicate nature makes them the antithesis to in-your-face statement nails.
One of the latest minimal nail trends is an update on popular looks from previous years.
‘Mirroring’ is taking over our Instagram feeds – and it involves the same design on the tips and the cuticles, to create a reflective effect.
Think of it as a French manicure with a twist.
Harriet Westmoreland and Rochelle Humes are just a few big names who have shared their own versions of the trend this summer. And the best part is there’s room to get a little experimental too – depending on your own personal taste.
Keep to the same colour for a realistic mirroring effect or play around with different shade combinations and designs.
As an example, remember pastel and rainbow tips from last year? People are simply adding the same design to the cuticle, for a contemporary take on it.
Need some more inspiration?
Nail artist Georgia Rae alternates yellow and blue mirroring on each finger. This takes the the trend to a whole new level – as it means her index and ring finger mirror each other, along with her middle and little finger.
So much symmetry.
This can also be done with different shades of the same colour for an eye-catching two-tone design.
Manicure enthusiast Ellie O’Hara demonstrates how to achieve this look with two different orange polishes.
Similarly, nail artist Hollie Barker showcases a diagonal neon mirroring look, with the lollipop and keylime shades from Glossify.
The best part is that, because you can mix up the colours, it will feel like a brand new design every time.
So as we move out of summer, pastels and vibrant colours can be swapped in for richer, autumnal shades.
The possibilities are endless.
