Mylene Klass made history when she successfully lobbied for a reform in the law regarding miscarriages.
The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star has two children: Ava, 14, and Hero, 10, with ex Graham Quinn, and Apollo, two, with partner Simon Motson.
Myleene, a former Hear’Say singer, has been vocal about her miscarriages while trying to have a baby with Simon, and she previously starred in the documentary Miscarriage & Me.
While attempting to procreate, the artist had four pregnancy losses, including one miscarriage while doing her radio programme.
Previously, expecting moms had to go through three miscarriages before receiving treatment and assistance, but this is about to change.
Mylene revealed that she had collaborated with MP Olivia Blake, whom she met while making the Miscarriage & Me documentary, and that they had ‘changed the law and therein, history.’
‘The world is officially a better place for women and their families because we never gave up,’ she wrote, alongside a snap of her outside Westminster holding a sign reading: ‘We did it!’
She and Olivia were ‘both battered and bruised from our [miscarriage] experiences but from that moment we joined forces and I became a campaigner for change to Miscarriage law and women’s health care.’
Myleene said women’s health has been ‘contentious, almost invisible,’ and miscarriage was ‘the final taboo.’ – and ‘change has to come from the top, from Government. Who knew our wombs are owned by Westminster?!’
She explained that, from now on, ‘no woman will have to wait for 3 miscarriages to receive help, she will have access to her GP who will sign post her to mental health support. After her 2nd, she’ll have appointments and investigations, her 3rd, consultant led, specialist care (sic).’
Women will have access to treatment 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with GPs and medical professionals being retrained in the Tommys’ approach, as will the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and, finally, the government’s execution of the legislation.
Myleene went on to share her own difficult story and why the campaign meant so much to her personal, writing: ‘The personal side of this is 4 miscarriages along, pouring the heartache and frustration into fierce campaigning HAS WORKED. We have changed the future for so many mothers-to-be and babies to come.
‘This will all take time, but it’s officially confirmed and will be actioned.’
She paid tribute to Olivia, who she met when the idea of campaigning at a government level was ‘never a part of my plan yet but became my calling.’
‘I couldn’t let it go. I wanted my children to see their mother turn her pain into power and the babies I never got to hold, to know they chose a mother who would fight to have their voices somehow heard.
‘I never dreamed those voices would resonate into the history books and their legacy would be the most powerful of all, real change.’
Myleene was celebrated by friends, fans and more in the comment of her major achievement, with Tommys charity writing it was an ‘incredible moment and huge milestone in our campaign for change,’ thanking her ‘for all that you do’.
The star has previously spoken of her work to lobby the government to change the current health system, and says it would be ‘easier to move on from this and just live my life but I owe it to my children, my friends and family who both stood by me and who also experienced this trauma themselves and ultimately to my angel babies, that their limited tiny heartbeats on this earth were not in vain.’
One in every four pregnancies ends in miscarriage, and one in every 100 women in the UK has recurrent miscarriages (three or more in a row).
