AJ Pritchard’s girlfriend Abbie Quinnen has been ‘overwhelmed’ by messages of support after revealing she suffered third-degree burns following a horrific accident.
The 23-year-old was admitted into Chelsea and Westminster’s specialist burns unit after she became engulfed in flames while filming a ‘life hack’ for social media.
The couple were aiming to show how to cut a glass bottle in half to use it as a vase. The stunt involves dipping a rope into a flammable chemical, wrapping it around the bottle and lighting a flame.
However, the glass exploded during the dangerous stunt and Abbie’s upper body was burnt. She has required treatment for the past seven weeks.
The Strictly Come Dancing star, 26, has said they will address what happened when they feel comfortable to do so.
Speaking out on Instagram on Sunday Abbie thanked people close to her for their words of concern.
She wrote: ‘I’m so overwhelmed with all your love and support…thank you all so very much! It means a lot.’
She went on to post Instagram messages from her friends, with one describing her as ‘the bravest person I know’.
Another said: ‘My girls been to hell and back, but you’re the strongest there is and have the best support system behind you.’
It comes after an earlier statement Abbie made detailing how the incident happened.
She warned: ‘I really need you all to be so careful with what you’re doing & if you are copying any YouTube videos, I will be ok! I love you all!’
A spokesperson confirmed that Abbie has undergone surgery on her upper body and will continue to receive treatment.
