Alex Reid has shared a heartbreaking post revealing he and fiancee Nikki have lost one of their twins, after falling pregnant amid a lengthy IVF journey.
The pair, who have sadly gone through five miscarriages previously, shared their joy after Nikki Manashe recently fell pregnant, soon revealing they were expecting twins.
However in a devastating blow, the star shared an update today, saying it was a ‘scary day’ which saw an emergency call out.
Alex, who has been forced to isolate away from his pregnant partner, asked his followers not to congratulate him until they read his whole caption, after he shared an image of an ultrasound which may have led people to believe he was sharing happy news.
He wrote: ‘We lost one of the twins. I am ?. Today was a scary day for Nicola.
‘Emergency call out and bleeding but thank god for the kindness of @hsfc_uk Dr Venkat who calmed a self isolating worried pregnant lady down at 5 am followed by the kind act of pure love from @ultrasound_diagnostic_centre who helped us and saw us straight away, checked the healthy little fighting baby over, made sure the bleeding wasn’t anything sinister and confirmed the baby was well with a due date.’
He confirmed they hadn’t lost both of their babies, as he went on: ‘I can happily say mum and baby are home resting and shielding.
‘Baby Reid due July 16th. We will never forget the other baby. Who will now be a guardian angel for his/her twin #ivfjourney #ivfwarrior.’
Posting to her own page, @ivf_chasing_dreams, Nikkie wrote: ‘I lost one of my twins. Vanishing Twin Syndrome is the medical term used.
‘I hadn’t planned to have twins—who does?—but once I was pregnant with two babies I wanted both of them. I was already planning moving to my new big house in the country side, watching two babies grow up together, digesting the happy news that I will never need to go through IVF again as I now have my perfect family and then just like that – One strong beautiful heart beat not two ?
‘Emotions – heart broken and happy all at the same time? Grief and excitement. No words ?.’
Sharing further details, she went on: ‘To make matters worse this morning I woke up bleeding and called 999 and thought I was losing the other twin.
‘I had an emergency scan and thank god my baby is ok and we are currently 9 weeks and 2 days. The blood is old blood and was due to implantation bleeding and a 5 cm cyst that has decided to grow back again since it was removed in October! But we are both safe!
‘I haven’t slept. Been up since 4 am with worry. I can finally rest now that I know my baby is ok. Baby Reid due 16th July 2021.’
Last month Alex confirmed his partner was expecting their first child together – and that they believed they were having twins as the mum-to-be’s hCG levels were particularly high.
It was a breakthrough moment for the couple who have battled with fertility issues in recent years.
Last month it was revealed Alex and Nikki, 35, were forced to stay apart, due to the high-risk nature of her pregnancy amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
She told the Mirror Online: ‘I’m completely by myself, it’s completely not safe for me to be near him either. Mentally it’s a struggle, but I’ve waited so many years for a baby, I can do this.
‘I think he’s struggling more than I am, to be completely honest. The structure, the routine, the comfort. I think men need women more than women need men. I’m a really independent person, so is he.’
In April, the pair opened up about their fertility struggles to Metro.co.uk and said they were halting their IVF plans due to the coronavirus pandemic.
