Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly both hope to see I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! return to Australia this year after two series in Wales.
Since the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Ant and Dec have been hosting the popular reality series in a castle in North Wales, with celebs being locked up in the freezing Gwrych Castle.
And while many fans were happy I’m A Celeb was still on our screens in any form, the major changes saw the show’s ratings suffer.
In December 2021, viewing figures dropped to their lowest since 2014, dipping below five million for the first time in seven years.
Ant and Dec appeared on Friday’s Lorraine where they were asked by host Lorraine Kelly if there was a chance the show would return to the jungle in Australia this year.
I’m A Celeb co-host Ant, 46, said he certainly hopes so, adding: ‘But we said that last year.’
He admitted that they would ‘all like to go back,’ and Australia is I’m A Celeb’s ‘proper home, so fingers crossed’.
Dec, 46, added that one thing in particular that they miss is being able to go golfing while filming in Australia, whereas ‘it was a bit too drizzly to play golf in Wales last year’.
And while they ‘had a great time’ in North Wales, Dec agreed Australia is I’m A Celebrity’s ‘spiritual home’.
To which Ant jumped in: ‘And we never got called off-air with a storm in Australia!’
The latest season of I’m A Celebrity was marred by bad luck and even worse weather, with the show being cancelled for several days after Storm Arwen wreaked havoc on the set.
Lorraine agreed that it was ‘strange’ and ‘bizarre’ that there was such bad weather in Wales in December (Is that strange?), but insisted the show was ‘still a cracker’.
That said, all three hope to see the show return to the sun for 2021, with Dec joking they get to ‘torment [the celebrities] a bit more in Australia’.
Both fans and critics appear to be united in the opinion that I’m A Celebrity is missing something in Wales, with some fans saying they would prefer the show to go on hiatus if Covid travel restrictions were still in force by the next series.
For now, however, Ant and Dec are focusing on their newest venture, a dramatic new game show they worried would ‘bankrupt ITV’.
Their new show, Limitless Win, offers contestants an endless money ladder, which they must climb by answering questions correctly.
Limitless Win begins on Friday on ITV, and airs across five hour-long episodes in the coming weeks.
Lorraine is available to watch on ITV and ITV Hub.
