Antony Worrall Thompson insists he is ‘not an anti-vaxxer’ after sign in pub welcomes unvaccinated

Celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson has confirmed that he is not against Covid vaccinations after a sign was spotted in his pub saying unvaccinated people are welcome.

The Ready Steady Cook star owns and runs The Greyhound pub near Henley-On-Thames in Oxfordshire with his third wife, Jacinta ‘Jay’ Worrall Thompson, where a sign was put up reportedly by an anti-vaccination group.

The sign at the pub reads: ‘We do not discriminate. Race, gender, age, disability, vaccinated or unvaccinated. Everyone equal here. Everyone welcome.’

The former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star – who came fifth on the show in 2003 – told the BBC that he will continue to display the sign on the premises but remove any reference to the group as he clarified his stance on coronavirus vaccinations.

Worrall Thompson told the outlet that he ‘agrees with people getting vaccinated’ and is ‘not an anti-vaxxer’, adding: ‘To me if you don’t want to get vaccinated, if you don’t want to put chemicals into your body, it has to be your choice.’

The NHS says that vaccines are safe and effective and offer the best protection against Covid-19 with the Government rolling out booster jabs to all 16 and 17-year-olds from Monday.

Explaining why he was displaying the sign, the restauranteur said: ‘I’m doing it [having the sign up] because I don’t want to discriminate against anyone.

‘At the end of the day we’ve done our time, we’ve done two years of this, lockdowns and various things and precautions, and I think it’s time to move on.’

The TV chef also shut down suggestions that having the sign up was ‘irresponsible’, responding: ‘I don’t think it’s irresponsible at all. You know you have the choice. Freedom of choice to get vaccinated, freedom of choice to come to The Greyhound.’

The 70-year-old, who opened his first restaurant in Knightsbridge in 1981 and has written several cookery books, currently operates The Greyhound at Rotherfield Peppard and pop-up restaurant The Grill off the Green in Richmond, London.
