Azealia Banks sells 24-minute audio sex tape as NFT for $17,000

Azealia Banks has sold a 24-minute long audio-only sex tape with fiance Ryder Ripps as a non-fungible token (NFT) for $17,000 (£13k) in the latest wild virtual purchase in the world of cryptocurrency.

For those who also may be scratching their heads at WTF an NFT is, simply broken down, an NFT is a type of cryptocurrency that can hold assets such as artwork and concert tickets, rather than money.

And they’re pretty valuable, with musician Grimes earning $5.8million (£4m) in 20 minutes selling her artwork digitally via the blockchain. That was followed up by Kings Of Leon who announced a limited edition album as an NFT, with only 10 copies available.

While Azealia’s apparent sale isn’t as big as Grimes’, the winning bidder still spent handsomely to be the owner of the rapper’s vinyl which came with the X-rated file.

Her tape, aptly titled ‘I F**ked Ryder Ripps’ sold for 10 Ethereum on app Foundation – which is roughly $17k – this week to a user named @rultonfyder.

The tape was placed on sale by an account by the name of @Ryder_Ripps with the description reading: ‘This sale is for the full rights and sole access to the first audio sex-tape to be minted on the blockchain.

‘Recorded in February 2021 by Azealia Banks and boyfriend, Ryder Ripps, this sound based artwork is sure to titillate for its full 24:22 duration. Upon purchase, a WAV file will be delivered to the buyer in addition to a 1 of 1 signed LP vinyl record.

‘Full ownership, including limitless distribution and display rights are included in this sale. Don’t miss out on this historic & sexy event.’

It’s been reported in a now-deleted post, the star called for ‘something outrageous’ to be done ‘with this NFT sh*t’, which suggests she decided to take matters into her own hands.

And as the sale went on, Azealia shared screenshots of the page as well as reactions from punters.

When one wrote ‘Ain’t nobody spending 16k for a sex tape of Azealia Banks,’ the 212 rapper replied: ‘They already did suh.’

Sharing a clip of Beyonce dancing at Coachella, she added: ‘Me finally getting to monetize all the years of internet trolling.’

Explaining the decision behind the sale, she later wrote on Instagram: ‘I sold a sextape on blockchain because I honestly feel like alot of the digital art being collected is worth zero.

‘100 years from now absolutely no one is gonna give two sh*ts about your goofy 3D cherubs or your stupid ass fuzzy teletubby…

‘100 years from now people will still be having sex, eating food and drinking water.

‘I don’t understand the crypto enthusiasts’ democratization of wealth rhetoric when the fact that many people barely have access to clean water and basic hygiene…

‘Like can we democratize the food first? (sic)’

Ryder also shared the sale to his Instagram, writing: ‘Did some work on my gf @azealiabanks new record, minted on blockchain #NFT link in bio. For sale on @withfoundation.’

Last month Azealia shared she was engaged to Ryder, and sharing a snap of her ring on Instagram, the artist stated she would be converting to Judaism for the nuptials as she wrote: ‘I just got engaged k**ts. I’m crying ?…. I’m Jewish now. MAZEL TOV B*HES! WE IN HERE…. YERRRRRRR’.

In the snap, she had written: ‘I said yes!!! @ryder_ripps and I are engaged !!!!!!’

Not long after the exciting news, Azealia had claimed she’d ‘dumped’ Ryder, despite today’s sale and Ryder referring to the rapper as his girlfriend.

Ryder, who designed Grimes‘ album art for Miss Anthropocene, has also been a frequent collaborator with the likes of Kanye West.
