Chris Sawyer, a regular on BBC Radio 1’s breakfast show, has announced his departure from the broadcaster after 15 years.
On Wednesday, the broadcaster announced on social media sites X and Instagram that his farewell show will be on Friday.
‘It’s my last week at Radio 1! I’ve been involved with more nonsense than I ever thought it would be possible to fit into a quick 15 years,’ he wrote.
‘Friday will be my last show with Greg and the Breakfast team before I run off to a whole new world of mischief.’
Fans mourned the loss of a broadcast favourite, as he was dubbed ‘an absolute legend’ by listeners.
‘Not a term to be used lightly!’ added listener Tim Johns.

‘Ahhhhh Chris this is really sad. I know Greg is the face (or voice) of the breakfast show but all of you feel like family, especially after the pandemic, you were the only voices I heard for months!’ wrote Katie Morgan on X.
‘Thanks for all the laughs (and some tears) good luck in your new venture.’
‘Good luck Chris. Thanks for helping wake me up every morning. You will be missed!’ added Mark Badhams.
‘Chris! This week has been emotional enough ffs,’ posted Brenda. ‘The show won’t be the same without. Best of luck in your new venture.’

‘I still can’t 100% be sure this isn’t just another scheme,’ commented Greg next to Chris’s post on Instagram announcing his departure
The producer posted a thread of some of his career highlights and cherished recollections, such as his first ‘of many’ embraces with Greg on the breakfast show, Joe Lycett in the Live Lounge, and his humiliating typo that made headlines last year.
Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James airs daily mornings from 7 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.

Chris’s exit comes after Jordan North left his Radio 1 presenting gig and headed for Capital FM, where he will be replacing Roman Kemp as host of Capital Breakfast.
Jamie Laing has stepped into Jordan’s shoes as host on the Radio 1 drivetime show Going Home alongside Vick Hope, who has presented the show since 2021.
Manchester-born Katie Thistleton has also joined the duo to form a new line-up.
Mollie King, 36, and Matt Edmonson, 38, have also recently been given a brand new BBC Radio 1 slot in a scheduling shake-up.

Dean McCullough and Vicky Hawkesworth will take up the Monday to Thursday afternoon show from 1pm to 3.30pm, which they presently host.
The BBC has revealed that Matt and Mollie, who presently present from 1pm to 4pm on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, will move to a new time slot starting July.
Mollie, a former member of The Saturdays, joined Matt six years ago and the two have been on television together ever since.
