Bradley Walsh has become a grandfather for the first time after his daughter Hayley gave birth to a baby boy earlier this year.

The Chase star has revealed his 39-year-old daughter and her husband Tom welcomed their first child into the world and while things have been tough during the pandemic, he has made the most of family time once lockdown measures relaxed.

He told Saga magazine: ‘I am a grandfather! My daughter Hayley and her husband Tom have had a baby boy who is coming up for five months old.

‘It’s been tricky as during lockdown no one could get to see their grandchildren. Thank God for FaceTime – it has kept people in touch.’

The 61-year-old presenter and actor is excited to be a grandfather, and he’s confident he’ll be up to the task as the baby gets older.

He quipped: ‘I’m going to be a brilliant grandfather because I’ve got this trick.

‘When the baby grows into a toddler, make sure you spend plenty of time with them, feeding them ice cream and Coca-Cola, and then give them back at just the right time and say to your children, “There you are, that’s what you were like!”‘

Bradley – who has reflexologist Hayley from a previous relationship – noted that ‘family life is very, very important’ for him, and he’ll be marking 25 years of marriage with wife Donna Derby next year.

He’s also incredibly proud of his son Barney, 23, who has followed him into the TV business.

They’ve been in Budapest filming the upcoming fourth series of Bradley Walsh & Son: Breaking Dad, and he’s delighted with the quality time they’ve spent together travelling the world.

‘Breaking Dad has been one of the most thrilling things I’ve ever done. Not necessarily because of the things we do, but the time spent with each other and the chats,’ he said, hailing his son as his ‘hero’.

‘In the first-ever show we had to jump out of a plane. I didn’t want to do it because I have a thing about heights. As Barney jumped, I went to grab him. But in the blink of an eye, he was gone.

‘Then I wasn’t interested in anything else but getting out of that plane and finding him! It was an automatic reaction from a parent.’
