We have a pictorial pop quiz for you, dear reader, should you choose to accept our mission – can you guess who this here viral chef is from their slightly awkward, immensely adorable teen photo?
The man in question has received a lot of press lately, with some punters left a little salty by the extortionate prices of their culinary offers, if that gives you any idea.
Renowned for his ultra-toned gym-god physique and dazzling display in which he seasons his menu’s crowning glory, the chef has come a long way since his teen years in the kitchen.
Seen in a snap posted to social media, the viral wonder is seen sporting bright chef’s whites and an apron and matching white cap as he smiled for the camera while standing in a street.
It’s a stark contrast to the image he portrays these days, in which he wears a simple white T-shirt and round sunglasses – even in the dark. Which can’t make wielding sharp knives all that safe, but we suppose he’s a professional after all.
Surely that’s enough of the clues to reveal this teen throwback, right?
We’re talking Salt Bae!
The chef, who is a former butcher, shared the throwback to his Instagram recently, delighting his fans.
Salt Bae – real name Nusret Gökçe – wrote: ‘This is serious business 22 years ago.Bostancı civ civ mahallesi #saltbae #saltlife #Salt’
Nusret, 38, recently opened up a restaurant in London, but the eye-watering price tag for his succulent meats has attracted divisive reaction from connoisseurs. And Gemma Collins.
Luxury steakhouse Nusr-Et’s bills racked up by diners have gone viral on social media, much like the owner, who rose to fame in 2017 for his theatrical cutting of steaks, followed by his signature sprinkling of salt.
And the GC was one of the stars to nab a reservation at the noshery in Knightsbride.
However, she wasn’t expecting it to be as swanky as it was, as she spent over a grand on the restaurant’s signature Golden Giant Tomahawk – a tomahawk steak coated in 24-carat gold leaf.
Gemma said she felt ‘sick’ the morning after spending £1,450 – which would get you 454 Big Macs at McDonalds – on the steak, which was cut up at her table by the Turkish restaurateur.
Speaking on The Gemma Collins Podcast, the former Towie star said: ‘I have to give the ambience of the restaurant, the experience of the restaurant, a 10 out of 10.
‘The bill was another situation. I was in utter shock. But you know what, you have to weigh these things up, and the press reported that my steak cost £700, if only they knew. I wish it cost £700. It actually cost £1,450.
‘I went a bit over the top, but the only way I can justify it was that I haven’t been on holiday this year, I went on a staycation, so we sort of had maybe all our holidays in one that evening. It was kind of something I’ve never done before, I would never spend that money, but listen, we had an amazing time.
‘Yes, we had 24-carat gold steak… and then my friend, I tell her the next day because I feel so bad, then I told my mum, she was like, “the poor cow, don’t do that again.” I felt a bit sick. It was an amazing experience, I would have paid that to meet him anyway because I love him, and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
‘But I started to feel really bad the next day because oh my gosh, there’s people starving in the world. I just started feeling really bad about it all. I told all my friends and family that we won’t be eating out for a long time, not at those prices.’
In addition to the Golden Giant Tomahawk, golden burgers cost £100, two prawn tempura rolls cost £30, a Coca-Cola is priced at £9, and a Red Bull will set you back £11.
The London restaurant is his 15th venue worldwide, with Nusr-Ets located in Istanbul, New York, Dubai and Doha, amongst other cities.
He’s come a long way, (salt) bae-by!
