Carole Baskin has claimed she previously had a wife in the ’80s, before meeting her missing husband Don Lewis and third husband Howard Baskin.
The Tiger King star, 59, recently opened up about her sexuality and revealed she is bisexual, with Carole now telling TMZ she was once married to woman.
In a new interview, Carole explained that she has had both male and female lovers in the past and wed a woman, who’s identity she wants to keep out of the public eye, in the late ’80s.
The Big Cat Rescue owner revealed that her relationship with her secret former wife was ‘nonsexual’, as she respected that her wife was heterosexual.
Carole described their marriage as ‘platonic’ and revealed that her wife used to cook for her and take care of their home, as well as act as a secretary for the star’s real estate business.
Speaking about what she looks for in a partner, Carole insisted that she cares more about ‘who a person is on the inside’ and ‘doesn’t have a preference’ when it comes to someone’s physical characteristics.
Her latest comments come after Carole revealed she is a bisexual in an honest interview with Pink News.
‘I could just as easily have a wife as a husband,’ she said, explaining that she first felt close to the LGBTQ+ community in the 1980s when she was engaged to a psychologist.
‘I had just as equal feelings for women as I did for men,’ Carole told the news outlet.
The reality star claimed in the interview she’d never had a wife – despite later telling TMZ she was married to a woman – as she said: ‘I have always considered myself to be bisexual.’
Carole went on: ‘As far as they way I feel about us, I think we are all one and I just don’t see us as being different genders or different colours or anything.’
The star has been married to three different men over the years. Her first marriage was to ex-husband Michael Murdock in 1979, who had been her boss at a department store where she worked as a teen.
Carole gave birth to their daughter Jamie Murdock a year after the pair tied the knot and has publicly spoken of how she went on to have an affair with her second husband Don Lewis in 1991, while still married to Murdock.
Don disappeared six years later in 1997 and was legally declared dead in 2002.
His disappearance was widely discussed during Netflix series Tiger King, with Carole having to face constant speculation, including from Don’s family and her rival Joe Exotic, that she was involved.
She has repeatedly denied claims accusing her of killing Don and denied having anything to do with his disappearance.
Carole then married her third husband, her current partner Howard, in 2004.
They both appeared in Tiger King together and starring on the show has taken its toll on Carole, who was seen breaking down in tears during a stint on Dancing With The Stars, as she addressed the media attention that has followed her since and the scrutiny she faces over her personal life.
‘I keep it inside [my feelings],’ Carole revealed as she came over all emotional.
‘That is the absolute worst of this… all of the negative media attention that came out of Tiger King was extremely difficult because of the fact that my family was struggling so much with it, to the point where my daughter doesn’t read hardly any of the news anymore.’
She added: ‘I hate that I try even harder to be strong in their presence. I keep it inside and wait until everybody’s gone before I can break down.’
