In a collaboration we never expected in a million years, Tiger King’s Carole Baskin has teamed up with journalist and The Crown subject Carol Thatcher to sing, well, a carol.
Oh, plus Carol Smillie, Carol Wright and a Carol Decker have been thrown in the mix to overload us on Carol-ness.
As part of streaming service Deezer’s new Christmas charity campaign, the carols, as well as Carole Parkinson from The Brittas Empire (Harriet Thorpe) and Carolyn Pickles (they may be pushing that, but we’ll let it slide in the name of holiday merriment) have flexed their vocal cords for a rendition of Deck The Halls.
But as the assorted Carol(e)s launch into the tune with varying levels of enthusiasm and festive zest, we want to know where the heck Carol Vorderman is.
Of course, clutching a stuffed tiger toy, Baskin welcomed us all to what is probably going to be our favourite video of the week (not counting Nigella Lawson’s mee-cro-wah-vay).
She sounded off with her catchphrase: ‘Hey all you cool cats and kittens, it’s Carole Baskin.
‘And we were wishing you a happy holiday season.’
Carols Decker and Smilie then kick off the Christmas tune, singing from their living rooms because what else is 2020 if not a bunch of celebrities singing from their homes?
Special mention to Carol Thatcher – who was recently portrayed by Rebecca Humphries in the fourth series of Netflix’s The Crown – who spoke her line: ‘While I tell of Yule-tide treasure.’
And we see you, ‘Maggie’ Christmas ornament…
It’s all for a good cause though, and not some inauguration of the International Club Of Famous Carol(e)s.
Singing from Brentwood, to the Swiss Alps, to a tiger sanctuary in Florida, the gang entertained us to raise money for charity, with the streaming platform aiming to highlight Crisis and the organisation’s fight to end homelessness.
Adam Read, Deezer’s UK & Ireland Music Editor said: ‘Christmas caroling is going to be harder this year with social distancing and tiering. So we wanted to find a way to keep people safe, but inject some heavy duty Christmas spirit with this one-of-a-kind performance.
‘We’re thankful to all the Carols helping us raise money for Crisis and want to encourage everyone to watch the video, listen to Carols’ playlists and donate for a very worthy cause. So tag your favourite Carol and let them know that ‘Tis The Season To Be Carol!’
Should you be impressed with the tune, or want to be a good human and donate, punters can do so using via Crisis, or through Deezer.
