Courtney Love calls fling with Steve Coogan ‘one of my life’s great shames’

Courtney Love has called her fling with Steve Coogan ‘one of [her] life’s great shames’.

The Hole star had a brief two-week affair with the Alan Partridge actor in 2005, but doesn’t seem to look back too fondly on the fling.

The 56-year-old lumped her relationship with Coogan, 55, along with her solo record America’s Sweetheart and taking crack in her greatest shames.

Love shared a picture to her Instagram showing a car featuring a decal of the artwork for her 2004 solo album, and criticised the record, which she made when addicted to drugs.

The Malibu singer wrote: ‘A happy Australian cruising around, Australia… “America’s Sweetheart“ having her revenge, on, Melbourne ? AMAZING. ! Maybe one day I won’t hate that record. It has some good songs .

‘But like Steve Coogan, or crack, it’s one of my life’s great shames.

‘Just the period, sloppiness, men, money, drugs, nightmare…. although Chateau Miraval (where we made it) doesn’t suck.’

Love previously called her relationship with Coogan ‘a couple of s**gs’, telling Love magazine: ‘I thought he was Tony Wilson in 24 Hour Party People — someone I’d always had a daddy thing for.

‘I had never seen Alan Partridge. But I was in a band with people who did know Alan Partridge, so I had to make a record with them constantly saying, “Back of the net!”

‘All it was, was a couple of sh**s at the Sunset Marquis and I did not know he was Alan Partridge.’

However, soon after the fling, it was reported that Love was pregnant with Coogan’s baby when she told the News of the World: ‘Yes, I am pregnant with Steve’s baby, but I’d rather not talk about our relationship.’

The rocker, who was previously married to Kurt Cobain, later entered rehab to treat drug addiction, and said: ‘Courtney Love wishes to make it clear that she denies recent stories suggesting she is pregnant or has had a relationship with Steve Coogan.

‘She confirms that she and Steve are good friends and have met a few times in Los Angeles.’

Speaking to Piers Morgan for GQ, Coogan said of the reports of their relationship: ‘Some of it was true, most of it was b*****ks.’

While Love wasn’t very complimentary about her relationship with Coogan, she showed a particular fondness for Michael Stipe in her latest Instagram post.

Marking the REM star’s 61st birthday, she wrote: ‘High holy day. The birth of Michael Stipe.

‘When Michael was little, he was staring into a lightbulb one day, he broke into the bulb and smashed the glass open with his bare little hands to get inside it. Glass shattered everywhere.

‘His father heard the noise, & came into the room, concerned (his father took a photograph of the smashed bulb, not included here) When he asked young Michael what he was thinking of, Michael replied, “I want to be the light“.Not in the light. Not of the light. The light. My god, he did succeed.

‘I love you so my sweetheart, my psychic warrior, my true heart. No man so beautiful. So sexy, so graceful, No man talks me down from the end and into the omega. No man. No better front man in rock and roll. Not now, not ever.

‘No argument. Just elegance. Always, to eagle peak, Your number one distiple, Your grateful candy apple, God damn, your confusion, He’s got. Such Pretty persuasion.’
