Dame Joan Collins, 87, ‘honoured’ to get Covid-19 vaccine on the same day as Queen and celebrates with drink

Dame Joan Collins felt ‘honoured’ to receive her coronavirus vaccine on the same day as the Queen and celebrated by going home and having a drink.

It was revealed the Queen, 94, and Prince Philip, 99, were given their Covid-19 jab on Saturday, as the vaccine rollout continues across the UK.

Dame Joan, 87, was also among those who had been injected, with the actress sharing her ‘painless and seamless’ experience with fans on Instagram.

Sharing a photo of her having her injection, Dame Joan, who was wearing a floral mask, thanked NHS staff who had administered it to her. She wrote: ‘Delighted to get @astrazeneca @ouhospitals #vaccine yesterday morning at the @nhsenglandldn Bloomsbury surgery.

‘Thank you Mr. @rajgill2585 and @dr_ammarahughes for a painless and seamless procedure! Same day as our Queen!’

The former Dynasty star later revealed on Good Morning Britain on Monday that she had even had a drink to mark the occasion when she returned home from her trip to the doctors.

Assuring fans with concerns that her experience was ‘absolutely fine’, Dame Joan revealed: ‘I went home and had a drink.’

She added: ‘They didn’t tell me when I get the second dose, I’ve had the Zeneca [Oxford University/AstraZeneca vaccine]. I think it’s anything between eight weeks and 12.’

Dame Joan stressed the importance of people being vaccinated amid the ongoing pandemic and claimed: ‘I don’t think these stringent lockdowns are doing what they should do, as far as I’m concerned everybody go and get the vaccine.’

People aged over 80 in the UK are among the high-priority groups who are being given the vaccine first, with the government hoping to offer jabs to around 14million vulnerable people across the country by the middle of February.

A string of elderly celebs have already been vaccinated, including Great British Bake Off judge Prue Leith, 80, and Sir Ian McKellen, 81, who said he felt ‘euphoric’ after receiving his injection.

‘It’s a very special day, I feel euphoric – anyone who has lived as long as I have is alive because they have had previous vaccination,’ Sir Ian said following his jab.

‘The take up amongst the older generation will be 100% – it ought to be, because you’re having it not just for yourself, but for people who you are close to. You’re doing your bit for society.’
