Dani Harmer had no clue who Stormzy was when he sampled her Tracy Beaker theme tune: ‘I felt like a wally’

Stormzy is one of the most influential British artists of our generation.

However, the Story of Tracy Beaker actress Dani Harmer has confessed that she had no idea who the grime artist was and had to Google him after he sampled her television show’s theme tune into his 2019 track, Superheroes.

Speaking to NME, the 32-year-old explained: ‘My phone just started going mental one day, and everyone was like, “Have you heard Stormzy put the Tracy Beaker theme song (Keisha White’s Someday) in one of his songs?”.’

The former child star admitted that she had only been familiar with the artists played on Radio 4 and initially thought Stormzy was a band.

‘I started looking a bit more and was like, “Oh, this is a big deal, everyone’s talking about this, and now I feel like an absolute wally”.’

Now having been blessed with the Big For Your Boots star’s musical talents, Dani revealed her hopes at crossing paths with him.

‘I’m just hoping that one day I actually get to meet him and be like, “Thank you so much, because you’ve kind of given me a little bit of street cred, which I definitely didn’t have before!”‘

Dani soared to fame after taking on the titular role in The Story of Tracy Beaker, which ran from 2002 to 2005 on CBBC.

She reprised the popular role last month in My Mum Tracy Beaker, in which she plays a mother to little Jess.

However, Dani explained to Fubar Radio that she was anticipating trolls targeting her appearance.

The actress said she had been ‘eating away’ at home in lockdown and ‘didn’t think in a million years we were going to film this series during the pandemic’.

Dani explained: ‘I kind of wanted to get in there before all of these stupid trolls came after me going like, “Oh, well, you’re fat now!” I’m like, “Oh, yeah, alright. Okay, sure! What else you got?”

‘You know, and I’m a size 10, and no way in a million years is that big for goodness sake. But I’m just kind of expecting it.’

My Mum Tracy Beaker, which follows the boisterous teen 20 years on from the original kids’ TV series, became CBBC’s most successful show launch ever when it aired last month.
