Dave Bautista offers $20,000 to catch whoever carved ‘Trump’ onto manatee’s back

Dave Bautista has offered a huge reward to whoever catches the cruel person that scraped ‘Trump’ onto a manatee’s back.

The retired WWE superstar and Hollywood actor – who has been very outspoken against the US President – has responded after an apparent Donald Trump supporter defaced an animal’s back.

The defaced creature was discovered in Florida’s Homosassa River on Sunday, January 10, and although there weren’t any serious injuries, officials have launched an investigation.

It’s thought that the message was etched into the algae on its back rather than its skin.

However, the authorities have still offered a $5,000 reward for anyone with information leading them to the culprit, and now Dave – known to WWE fans at Batista – has offered four times that amount.

He tweeted this week: ‘If there’s not already a reward for the arrest and conviction of the low life scummy MAGATs that did this I’ll throw in $20,000. And I promise there will be bonuses to that reward!’

The 51-year-old actor’s gesture didn’t go unnoticed, with plenty of people on social media heaping praise on him for getting involved.

Meanwhile, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission notes that 637 manatees died last year, with 90 of those cause by boat collisions and another 15 killed during interactions with humans.

After the ‘Trump’ etching, Aurelia Skipwith – director of the US Fish and Wildlife service – said: ‘West Indian manatees are essential members of the ecosystems in which they inhabit and are protected under the Endangered Species Act and the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

‘The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is aware of this incident and is working closely with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.’

Meanwhile, in wrestling news Bautista is still awaiting his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame after last year’s ceremony was postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic.

He was set to be honoured alongside the likes of John ‘Bradshaw’ Layfield and the Bella Twins.
