Dove Cameron confirms split from Descendants 2 co-star Thomas Doherty after four years: ‘We still have love for each other’

Dove Cameron spoke out to confirm the rumours that she and Thomas Doherty have split after four years, telling fans that they remain friends.

The Descendants actress, 24, who met Thomas on the set of the second movie in 2016, shared a statement on her social media accounts to tell fans the couple split in October.

Fans had suspected the couple were no longer together after they were last spotted together in August.

Dove wrote: ‘Hi all. We know there have been some rumours and confusion lately about the status of our relationship and we wanted to set the record straight.

‘In October, Thomas and I decided to part ways. The decision was incredibly difficult, but we still have love for each other, and will remain friends.

‘Thank you for allowing us our privacy in this time.’

Dove and Thomas, 25, had moved in together at the start of the year, and quarantined together amid the coronavirus pandemic.

She told People in April: ‘Even the healthiest of relationships right now, you need space, you need your alone time for your own relationship with yourself to flourish, but then also for your romantic relationship.’

Despite being confined together for several months, Dove said the pair had tried to give each other space amid lockdown.

She continued: ‘We make sure to go get fresh air and open the doors as much as we can. We’ve been cooking loads.’

Dove and Thomas met in late 2016 while filming Descendants 2, going public with their relationship in 2017.

The actress was previously engaged to Ryan McCartan after he proposed in April 2016 after three years of dating, but ended their relationship less than six months later.
