Dynasty star Geoffrey Scott dies aged 79 from Parkinson’s disease

Dynasty actor Geoffrey Scott has died aged 79.

The TV star’s death has been attributed to his battle with Parkinson’s disease.

Scott’s wife Cheri Catherine Scott told the Hollywood Reporter that her husband died in Broomfield, Colorado, on February 23, the day after his 79th birthday.

Scott was best known for playing tennis pro Mark Jennings, the first husband of Krystle Carrington (played by Linda Evans) on the classic 1980s soap Dynasty.

He joined the show in its third season in 1982 and stayed in his role for two years and 45 episodes.

His character was brought to Denver by Alexis Colby (Joan Collins) after she learned that his divorce from Krystle years earlier was not legal, and over the years, he became Alexis’s bodyguard and saved her and Krystle from a fire.

However, he met his demise when he was pushed off a terrace, with Alexis being arrested – and later exonerated – for his murder.

As well as Dynasty, Scott gained fame in a number of daytime soap operas, landing roles on Where The Heart Is, General Hospital and Guiding Light, as well as playing Sky Rumson on the 1970s series Dark Shadows.

Scott was also known for his extensive work in TV ads, doing nearly 100 commercials.

Among his most iconic spots were his role as a Marlboro man, a sailor for Old Spice, and ‘walking a mile for a Camel’ in a cigarette campaign shot at the Taj Mahal.

As well as starring in shows like Married… With Children, Kojak, Dallas and Murphy Brown, he appeared on the big screen in Sidney Lumet’s 1986 film The Morning After.

After 45 years in showbiz, Scott returned and moved to Colorado with his family where he pursued his lifelong passion of skiing.

Scott is survived by his wife and their two sons Christopher and Matthew.
