Jessica Plummer has recalled the moment she was forced to shave her iconic curls off, after ruining her hair.

The EastEnders actress has fronted a new campaign for Pantene’s Silky & Glowing range, and opened up about how important it is to properly care for hair.

Discussing her own journey with her locks, she explained there was a time she damaged her curls so much that she had no option but to dramatically hack at them six years ago.

Speaking to Metro.co.uk, she told us: ‘I guess hair, as much as it’s like a wonderful thing, it’s also a form of expression, being able to change it and experiment with different colours and styles.

‘But that aside, it’s so important to make sure you take care of it. Otherwise, you’ll do what I did and take it too far, then you’ve got to shave it all off.

‘It was so bad. I hid it, I hid the damage for like a year with weave and extensions, straightening it, but it was honestly so bad. I had my extensions in and I was covering the fact that half of my hair was red.

‘Half of the front bits of my hair were blonde. Where I had my weave out, I was straightening it all the time, the rest of my hair was curly. It was a mess. It looked fine when I went out. But then, underneath it all…’

Reflecting on the moment she hacked at her tresses, Jessica revealed she was left in tears by what she’d done to her hair.

‘I was in my bathroom, I looked in the mirror and I just cried. I was like, “I can’t do this anymore, this is just ridiculous, I can’t just keep pretending”,’ she continued.

‘I just hacked at it, made an appointment and the next day they cut it all off, shaved it all off and made it cute.  And then I went into hibernation for months because I was so scared to tell anybody.

‘My hair was such a big part of my image. I felt almost like, not only had I let myself down but I’d let down other people with similar hair to me. And then it grew back.’

Former Neon Jungle singer Jessica was last seen taking part on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here at the end of last year, where she narrowly missed out on a much-deserved place in the final.

Throughout her time in the Welsh castle, she kept her tresses looking perfect, despite being put through her paces in those tough Bushtucker trials.

Lifting the lid on her haircare routine, she said: ‘I will only ever do my hair when it’s wet, because you cannot get to brush through this when it’s dried. I’ll wet it, first and foremost, my hair will be dripping before I apply any products to it.’

‘I only wash my hair once a week, on a Sunday, and I’ll also use a mask. I’ll put the mask in in the morning literally leave it in the whole day. I’ll put in my products,’ she said referring to the Silky & Glowing range.

‘Also from their Gold series range, they have a hydrating oil and the way it makes your hair feel is unbelievable. Because it’s an oil, it just helps to keep things together and not be too frizzy, which is great.

‘I let my hair dry naturally if I’m not in a rush, I just let air do its thing and then I’m good to go.’

Good to know.

Pantene’s Silky & Glowing range is available for purchase now exclusively from Superdrug.
