Ashley Cain has shared the ‘amazing’ news that his daughter is responding well to treatment for leukaemia.
The Ex On The Beach star updated fans on Azaylia’s progress after previously announcing she was due to undergo a stem cell transplant.
Azaylia has been diagnosed with a ‘rare and aggressive’ form of cancer known as AML (acute myeloid leukaemia).
In an Instagram post with photos of the four-month-old in hospital, Ashley wrote: ‘The doctors told me this morning that she’s making her own cells already which is amazing news and they cannot believe how strong she is and how well she’s doing!’
He added: ‘Had such an amazing morning with my little princess. The energy she generates for not only herself, but for me and anyone that enters the room is so irresistibly compelling!’
Ashley, 30, also explained how a donor match for Azaylia was found in an umbilical cord which was donated from a new mum directly after giving birth.
The reality star said: ‘This was great for azaylia as the cord cells are very rich and because of her age, the amount of cells in the cord are sufficient for her. Also, it meant that the cord could be requested and sent immediately for Azaylia’s urgent need of a transplant!’
Ashley then expressed his disappointment that he’ll never be able to personally thank the donor, adding: ‘Unfortunately as it is a cord donor, it means that we will never be able to meet the people who have given Azaylia her stem cells and the greatest gift imaginable!
‘However, we’re extremely grateful to whoever you are and I’ll be praying for you for the rest of my life! ?? Thank you.’
In January, Ashley and his girlfriend, Safiyya Vorajee, were warned by doctors that the surgery would be high-risk as Azaylia’s leukaemia had returned.
Opening up about their ordeal, Ashley told The Sun at the time: ‘After recent tests and a meeting with the transplant team, we were informed Azaylia’s leukaemia has returned already. This is an indication of how aggressive her leukaemia is and indicates how important this transplant will be.
‘It came as a massive blow to us and brought us to our knees. It means she will have to go into transplant with leukaemia which is not ideal at all.’
Ashley continued: ‘We were told that because of her age and the aggressiveness of her leukaemia, she is in the high risk category of transplant complications and the poor risk category for transplant success. This news was incredibly hard to hear and has made every day even more difficult to face since.’
Ashley and his partner Safiyya welcomed Azaylia last August.
Fans will recognise Ashley from MTV dating series Ex On The Beach, where he appeared in season one, two and season five of the show.
