Freaks and Geeks actor Jerry Messing has been left ‘partially paralysed’ after battling Covid-19 this summer.

The 35-year-old actor was taken to a Florida hospital in August after testing positive for Covid and placed on a ventilator in the intensive care unit.

He’s now been out of ICU for more than a week and no longer on the breathing ventilator, while able to breathe on his own without a fever or a cough. He’s also tested negative for the virus.

However, Jerry has told TMZ that he is now partially paralysed following the Covid ordeal and can’t move his arms and legs properly. The actor also needs assistance to stand and walk but is going through physical therapy and using a machine to get his legs working again.

Doctors have warned that Jerry’s recovery will take time due to him being hospitalised for more than a month, but they are confident he is making progress. The actor also wanted to thank the public for their support over the past couple of months.

It was previously reported that Jerry had received his first dose of the Pfizer vaccine before falling ill, and therefore hasn’t been fully vaccinated yet. His medical team is keen to wait until Jerry is pneumonia-free before he can receive the second jab.

Jerry has been transferred to a rehab facility in Tampa and his father, James, feels reassured that his son is being well looked after.

At the time of his hospitalisation, James said that the TV actor was ‘struggling to survive’ and had ‘started feeling really sick and had shortness of breath’.

Jerry is best known for playing Gordon Crisp in American comedy series Freaks and Geeks, which was created by Paul Feig.

The actor also played Pugsley in the Addams Family Reunion TV movie but, in recent years, he became known as ‘The Fedora Guy’ thanks to a popular meme.
