Celebrated actress Helen McCrory has died at the age of 52, with fans celebrating the Hollywood and West End star’s illustrious career.
In a statement released on Twitter, Damian Lewis, who married McCrory in 2007, said that he was ‘heartbroken’ to announce his wife’s death.
‘I’m heartbroken to announce that after an heroic battle with cancer, the beautiful and mighty woman that is Helen McCrory has died peacefully at home, surrounded by a wave of love from friends and family,’ wrote Damian, with whom McCrory had two children.
‘She died as she lived. Fearlessly. God we love her and know how lucky we are to have had her in our lives. She blazed so brightly. Go now, Little One, into the air, and thank you.’
Tributes have come pouring in for McCrory, who was nominated for two Laurence Olivier Awards and a Critics Choice Award throughout her career.
Who did Helen McCrory play in Peaky Blinders?
In 2013, McCrory took on the role of Polly Gray in Peaky Blinders, the tough-talking matriarch of the Shelby family and the treasurer of the Birmingham-based gang, who counts Tommy Shelby (Cillian Murphy) as their leader.

Polly is the aunt of the Shelby siblings and never wastes any time in putting them in their place when they become too big for their boots.
When the men of the Shelby family were away at war, Polly took care of the family business, ensuring its longevity.

Who did Helen McCrory play in Harry Potter?
McCrory took on the role of Narcissa Malfoy in the Harry Potter film franchise, the mother of Harry’s Hogwarts nemesis Draco Malfoy (Tom Felton) and wife of Death Eater Lucius Malfoy (Jason Isaacs).

The actor made her first appearance as Narcissa, the sister of Bellatrix Lestrange (Helena Bonham Carter), in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, the sixth film in the series.
In the final film, Narcissa played a pivotal role in the Battle of Hogwarts that Lord Voldemort brought upon the magical school, informing the Death Eaters’ leader that Harry was dead, even though he was still breathing.
This resulted in Harry being transported back to the school, where he eventually killed Lord Voldemort.
What other roles did she play?
In the 2006 film The Queen and the 2010 film The Special Relationship, Helen portrayed Cherie Blair, the wife of former prime minister Tony Blair.

She has also starred in films including Charlotte Gray, Hugo and the 2012 film Skyfall, in which she questioned Judi Dench’s M as Clair Dowar MP.
In 2006, McCrory performed in the stage production of As You Like It on the West End.
Her performance garnered her a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Best Actress.
From 2014 to 2015, McCrory starred in horror TV series Penny Dreadful as Evelyn Poole, a professional spiritualist known by the alias Madame Kali.
The acclaimed actress also starred in Inside No. 9, the BBC’s MotherFatherSon and voiced Stelmaria, the daemon of Lord Asriel (James McAvoy) in His Dark Materials.
