Former Great British Bake Off winner Candice Brown revealed she was rushed to hospital after suffering a ‘massive and prolonged’ asthma attack.

Candice, 36, who won the 2016 series of Bake Off, shared photos of her with an oxygen mask on after struggling to breathe in the early hours of Saturday morning.

She told fans: ‘This is not how my Saturday was supposed to go. Sorry @paulainsw6rth @johnwalton.’

Adding another photo of her in the hospital, Candice updated her followers on how she was doing, revealing she could finally breathe easier after treatment.

She wrote: ‘Thanks for all your concerns and love. I’m fine. My body clearly started fighting a cold and cough in a weird, s**t way and gave me a massive, prolonged asthma attack.

‘I’ve been pumped full of steroids. I have new inhalers. I feel like I’ve been dug up, look like I’ve been dug up and sound like Bane, but I’m alright.

‘Anxiety and phobia hasn’t helped today but as I’m still working out I need to stop sometimes.’

Candice added: ‘Also I can breathe, which at about 6am this morning I couldn’t speak two words.’

She had been due to appear at chef Tom Kerridge’s Pub in the Park festival in Warwick but had ended up in the hospital instead.

Candice also opened up this week about the ‘shame’ she felt after struggling with her mental health in the past.

She said during an appearance on Loose Women on Friday: ‘I’ve spent so many years being ashamed of this mental health. I suffered trauma which led to the depression and PTSD.

‘It took me so long to realise it’s not my fault, it was something that’s quite wrong.’

She added: ‘I got diagnosed with ADHD in January last year which kind of explains that it’s not just me being completely disorganised, completely late, completely a bumblebee, which is what my family call me.

‘I function quite highly, it’s OK to not be OK, and it’s OK to ask for help.’
