Kim Kardashian drew eyebrows with her nipple bra launch, but Greenpeace has slammed her ‘greenwashing’ Skims campaign.
Skims’ newest range includes a bra with built-in nipples – yes, really – in an effort to erase nipple embarrassment – yes, really.
Kylie Jenner‘s new clothing label Khy has been called out by fans for appearing to mimic other designers, notably ex-brother-in-law Kanye, although Kylie has not reacted on the charges.
Kim has previously been chastised for establishing a new unrealistic beauty standard for women, but Greenpeace has taken issue with her’mockery’ of the climate catastrophe.
The 42-year-old highlighted ‘increasing sea levels’ and’melting ice sheets’ in her product announcement, but guaranteed consumers would always appear frigid no matter the temperature.
‘The hard truth about Kim’s new “nipple bra” 😞,’ the climate charity wrote on Instagram.
It continued: ‘Using melting glaciers and rising sea levels as a punchline to improve your profit margins makes a mockery of an issue that is devastating millions of people’s lives.
‘We desperately need global icons like Kim to champion the fight against climate change. Sadly, this isn’t what’s happening here 😢.
‘Kim’s new advert perpetuates the harmful profit-driven system accelerating the climate crisis, and diverts attention away from more impactful actions, like the UN Global Plastics Treaty, which offer a real chance for systemic change.’
Greenpeace accused the business magnate of ‘co-opting’ climate activists’ words to market a plastic product.
The bra is constructed of nylon, a thermoplastic, and spandex has a plastic foundation, which means the bra will not biodegrade if discarded.
Skims did pledge to give 10% of revenues to 1 Percent For The Planet, a global network that connects businesses with environmental groups.
Greenpeace called the commitment “alarmingly vague,” adding it was “difficult to understand the impact” of the gift.
