The X-Files and Grey’s Anatomy actor George Gerdes has died at the age of 72.
The singer, songwriter and character actor allegedly died after suffering a brain aneurysm on New Year’s Eve.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the entertainer died in a Glendale hospital.
His acting career included appearances in The X-Files, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, A Few Good Men, the rebooted Perry Mason and Bosch.
In 2020, he was seen in Grey’s Anatomy and played President Dwight Eisenhower in Christopher Munch’s sci-fi drama The 11th Green.
After graduating from Carnegie Mellon University in 1969, George recorded two folk/pop albums, Obituary and Son of Obituary.
Singer Joni Mitchell once described his track, Say So What Else Is New?, as ‘the happiest sad song I’ve ever heard’.
Following news of his death, Bosch co-star Titus Welliver called him a ‘deeply kind man’ in a tribute to him on Twitter.
He wrote: ‘George Gerdes has departed. An actor’s actor and deeply kind man. Rest easy brother, we are fewer…’
George is survived by his partner Julia Johns, his sister, Julia, and nephews Zachary, Michael, and Will.
