Hilary Duff confessed that when she was younger she was convinced that the first time you have sex, you end up pregnant.
The actress, 33, who is best known for starring in Disney’s Lizzie McGuire, is currently pregnant with her third child and sat down with Ashley Benson and Sarah Hyland to discuss previous misconceptions they had about sex.
Taking part in the Lady Parts episode on YouTube, Hilary revealed the biggest misconception she had about sex when she was younger and admitted: ‘Oh my god, well I thought the first time that you have sex, you’re going to get pregnant.’
Pretty Little Liars star Ashley agreed and joked: ‘I mean anything touching your vagina, I thought, “I’m gonna get pregnant…” I was always terrified.’
Hilary added that she didn’t realise when she was younger that sex is for pleasure too.
‘One thing that’s a bummer that people don’t really talk about when you’re younger is that sex is for pleasure too, it’s not just about being in love,’ she said.
‘You’re having a lot of different feelings in your body and a lot of people are ready at different times, I guess I never got taught that it was about feeling good and feeling connected with someone.’
The Younger star continued: ‘I think as a young girl you get taught like, “oh my god, you want the guy to feel good,” and that’s really a terrible mentality to go into starting to have sex with.’
‘I think that’s one of the biggest misconceptions,’ former Modern Family star Sarah agreed. ‘I remember being like it’s all pretty much being about the guy and I’m not going to get anything out of it.’
Hilary added that she is ‘terrified’ of one day having to have a conversation about sex with her own children.
She is mum to son Luca, eight, who she shares with ex Mike Comrie and daughter Banks, two, who she shares with husband Matthew Koma.
Hilary and Matthew tied the knot in December 2019 in a ‘small and low-key ceremony’ at their home in LA. They had announced their engagement seven months prior in May 2019 and have been dating since 2017.
