Holly Willoughby left heartbroken over not being able to see sister at Christmas for first time in 40 years

Holly Willoughby and her older sister Kelly have shared their heartache over not being able to see each other at Christmas for the first time in 40 years.

Following new government restrictions being enforced, London and the South East are now in tier 4, meaning families are unable to mix at Christmas – as plans for Christmas bubbles for up to three households were scrapped.

Others in tiers 1, 2 and 3 are now only allowed to mix with one other household on Christmas Day, while those in tier 4 must stay at home and are encouraged to also work from home, as non-essential retail, gyms, leisure facilities, personal care services, pubs, bars and restaurants all close.

This means many families won’t get to see each other over the Christmas break, with Holly’s sister Kelly revealing on Instagram that she was ‘so sad’ over the news.

Sharing a cute selfie with This Morning host Holly, Kelly wrote: ‘So sad I can’t be with my @hollywilloughby for the first time in 40 years.

‘Thinking of everyone who can’t be with their favourite people this Christmas. It’s beyond heartbreaking.’

Encouraging others to try and take their mind off things, Kelly suggested: ‘Do something now to try and keep your head straight. I can’t knit for toffee but giving it a bloody go….oh and have cracked open the Christmas booze…and on second tub of chocs.’

Holly – who reportedly made a huge £2million last year – seemed just as upset as her sister, as she commented on Kelly’s post with a broken heart emoji.

Her co-star Eamonn Holmes also commented and attempted to cheer Kelly up, as he teased: ‘Hope u r missing me too (sic).’

Holly, meanwhile, attempted to bat away her Christmas blues by blaring out a little Kate Bush on Monday morning.

She shared an iconic snap of the Wuthering Heights singer to her Instagram story and commented: ‘Got out of bed and played this wonderful goddess this morning… it helped.’

Hoping for a better start to 2021, it’s been reported that Holly will host a brand new TV show with Freddie Flintoff next year that is set to ‘push celebrities to their limits’.

The Real Games will air on ITV, with the competition forcing stars to get out of their ‘comfort zones’ as they’re coached and trained in different areas of sport within the athletics arena, the pool and the gymnasium.

Speaking ahead of the show’s debut, Holly has said: ‘I’m really excited to be presenting The Real Games with Freddie and the rest of the team. I can’t wait to watch our celebrity competitors go head-to-head.’

She and Freddie will also be joined by fellow presenters Alex Scott and Chris Kamara.
