After sharing her fight with alopecia, Jada Pinkett Smith has provided an update on the status of her hair.
In 2018, the Scream 2 actress announced that she has been suffering from the autoimmune disease.
Taking to Instagram, the 51-year-old posted two shots with supporters, emphasising the difference in size between the images.
She was shown posing with short hair in the first upload, which was somewhat longer and bleached blonde in the ‘current’ post.
Alongside the post, she penned: ‘This here hair is act’n like it’s try’n a make a come back. Still have some trouble spots but – we’ll see [sic].’
Jada has received kudos for speaking out about the physical issue that caused her hair to fall out.
It is frequently related with stress and worry, and while there is no cure, therapies to reduce hair loss are available.
The mother-of-two discussed the disease with her daughter Willow Smith and mother Adrienne Banfield-Norris on an episode of her Red Table Talk series.
‘Well, I’ve been having issues with hair loss,’ she explained, when asked why she was wearing a turban at the time.
‘And I’ll tell you it was terrifying when it first started. I was in the shower one day and then just handfuls of hair, just in my hands, and I was like “oh my God am I going bald?”
‘It was one of those times in my life when I was literally shaking with fear.’
She continued: ‘That’s why I cut my hair — and why I continue to cut it. I just [thought], “Okay, I think we’re going to do another layer of cutting”.
‘My hair has been a big part of me. Taking care of my hair has been a beautiful ritual. And having the choice to have hair or not, and then one day to be like, “Oh, my God, I might not have the choice.”
‘People are out here with cancer, with sick children… I watch the higher power takes things every day and if the higher power wants to take my hair? That’s it? God, you want my hair? When I looked at it from that perspective it did settle me.’
Jada subsequently said that she was fighting to conceal her bald areas and declared that she was “going to be friends” with alopecia.
‘Now at this point, I can only laugh,’ she said in a video, before pointing at a spot. ‘Y’all know I’ve been struggling with alopecia and just all of a sudden one day, look at this line right here. Look at that.
‘So it just showed up like that and this is going to be a little bit more difficult for me to hide. So I thought I’d just share it so y’all are not asking any questions.
‘But you know mama’s going to put some rhinestones in there. I’m going to make me a little crown. That’s what mama’s going to do.’
