Jake Gyllenhaal has revealed Jennifer Aniston used ‘the pillow technique’ during their love scenes in The Good Girl.

The 40-year-old admitted that sex scenes with Jennifer, 52, were ‘torture’, as he had a big crush on the Friends star.

Jake was chatting to Howard Stern to promote his new movie The Guilty when the presenter suggested that the romantic scenes in the 2002 comedy-drama must have been ‘torture’.

He said: ‘Oh yeah, it was torture. Yeah, it was. But it was also not torture, I mean, come on. It was a mix of both.’

Howard asked whether he warned his co-star in advance that a ‘protrusion’ could occur, with Jake laughing before explaining: ‘Weirdly, love scenes are awkward because there are maybe 30, 50 people watching it. Maybe if you have a closed set, it’s less. That doesn’t turn me on. Most of the time, it’s oddly mechanical, right?

‘Also, it’s a dance. You’re choreographing for a camera… It’s one of those things — it’s like a fight scene, you’ve got to choreograph those things, and I always have tried.’

However, Jennifer preempted any awkward incidents by using ‘the pillow technique’.

Jake said: ‘I do remember a pillow. Yeah, the pillow technique was used. That was just preemptive, and used — generally, always — when actually in a horizontal place in that movie. Everything else is whatever it was. I remember those two characters did a lot of making out on like, boxes in the back room.

‘I think that was actually a Jennifer suggestion. I think she was actually very kind to suggest it before we began… She was like, “I’m putting a pillow here.” That was it, that was all she said.’

In The Good Girl, Jennifer played a depressed retail employee who begins an affair with a co-worker (Gyllenhaal) behind her husband’s back.

Jake previously fessed up to his crush on Jennifer in 2016, with the Donnie Darko star telling People: ‘She’s a rough one, you know, not likeable. So hard to compliment. I will say, I had a crush on her for years. And working with her was not easy . . . I was – um, yeah. That’s all I’m going to say. It was lovely. It wasn’t hard, that’s what I would say.’

The star has moved on though, clearly, as he is now in a relationship with French model Jeanne Cadieu, 25.

Meanwhile, Jennifer – who has previously been married to Brad Pitt and Justin Theroux – recently said that she is ready to date again after taking a few years off from romance.

The Morning Show actress told SiriusXM: ‘No one of importance has hit my radar yet, but I think it’s time. I think I’m ready to share myself with another.’
