James Argent celebrates one year of sobriety after turning life around following near-fatal overdose

James Argent is celebrating a year of being sober after a near-fatal overdose on Christmas Day last year.

The former Towie star, 33, celebrated the milestone after turning his life around after his cocaine addiction nearly cost him his life.

James shared a photo of a keyring marking one year sober, writing: ‘’1 year clean and sober. A huge milestone I’m extremely proud of’.

The keyring, which had the logo for Cocaine Anonymous also featured the words: ‘We’re here and we’re free, 1 year’, with ‘hope, faith, courage’ on the other side.

Arg’s best friend Mark Wright had booked him into rehab in Thailand last year after he reached out say he was ready to make the change.

Speaking about the darkest time in his addiction, Arg revealed on Loose Women: ‘I was the biggest I’d ever been, 23 and a half stone, I hated everything about myself, all time low.

‘I remember around that period, I was using drugs for like two or three days straight in my house, I had locked myself in and it was pitch black in the house.’

James is now committed to staying clean and sober, adding: ‘I feel this time, after going to Thailand to work on myself for a few months, this time I really believe in my heart of hearts, this is the time I’m going to say clean and sober forever.

‘I believe that I felt I could discuss it and be accountable. I felt it was worst kept secret, stories throughout the years… during breaks for TOWIE it was known but I never spoke about it.’

The reality star hopes that speaking openly about his struggles will help hold him accountable to staying on the right path as well as to help others to seek treatment if they are in the same position.
