James Argent: How much weight has the Towie star lost?

James Argent has been keeping fans up to date with his lifestyle overhaul since being warned by doctors that he could die if he didn’t lose weight.

The former Towie star, better known as Arg, 34, had reached 27 stone at his heaviest after battling an eating disorder, and was warned he’d be at high risk of dying amid the coronavirus pandemic due to being overweight and asthmatic unless he lost weight.

James, who previously dated co-stars Gemma Collins and Lydia Bright, underwent gastric sleeve surgery earlier in the year and has since lost 13 stone in weight, now weighing 14 stone.

He recently revealed his new figure in swimming shorts as he told his followers: ‘9 months ago I dreamed of having THAT @adele moment & here it is.

‘After being 27 stone, depressed and having doctors telling me I was on “death row” I made the decision to have gastric sleeve surgery with @wearetransform which reduced the size of my stomach and limited how much I could eat.

‘I’ve since lost a total of 13 stone and now weigh 14 stone which surpassed all expectations. I’ve never felt happier or healthier.’

Arg added: ‘I can honestly say that it was the best decision I’ve ever made. It spurred me on to be serious about my eating habits and exercise.

‘Since my surgery, I’ve followed the advice from the team at Transform Hospital Group and stuck to a healthy diet with smaller portion sizes. I’ve also been training in the gym to make my body stronger. That swim across the English Channel is still on the cards.’

The former star of The Only Way Is Essex also thanked fans for their support, adding: ‘I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me on my weight loss journey. When I look in the mirror, I’m finally happy with the man looking back at me.

‘I’m delighted to be starting 2022 as the best version of me. The future is looking bright, and I can’t wait to live it.’

Arg is set to open up about his eating disorder and recover on Tuesday’s Loose Women from 12.30 on ITV.
