Jeremy Renner’s recovery from a near-fatal snowplough crush continues to astound everyone.
The Marvel star, 52, is lucky to be alive after being hit by a car on New Year’s Day.
In an incredible act of valour to save his nephew, the Hawkeye actor was slammed by and ‘dragged under’ the snowplough, shattering more than 30 bones.
He subsequently spent nearly three weeks in the hospital before being released, and despite worries that he might never walk again, he has now made his first red carpet appearance and continues to amaze his admirers with his development.
On Friday (May 5), the actor posted an update on Instagram.
The US actor worked on a series of squats and leg workouts while filming himself at his home gym.
In the video, he works his muscles with a pulley linked to a machine after breaking his tibia, or shin bone.
He hopped from side to side with the pulley before transitioning to a few rounds of pull-ups and then running motions to stretch out his calf muscles.
Jeremy penned in the caption: ‘UPDATE: I’ve decided to push through the pain of progress (this damn shattered tibia) and take the new parts for a tiny test drive.
‘The body is miraculous…. Even though I feel like the Tin Man, needing oil for all my new joints (hips, knees, ankles, tibia etc ) . Encouraged after this warm up to press on ( don’t tell my PT). 😂.’
His fans and famous friends took to the comments to cheer him on.
‘That’s the stuff!!! ❤️❤️❤️’, praised Ryan Reynolds.
Marvel star Clark Gregg commented: ‘Let’s go!!!! 🔥🔥🔥’.
‘I’m so proud of you. You didn’t let your injuries or the accident keep you down. Keep up the good work 👏’, one fan added.
‘Fight on Hawkeye! Us fellow warriors are with you’, another encouraged.
It’s hard to imagine Jeremy was in critical care just a few months ago, especially since he just returned to thank the medical team who cared for him.
Last month, the actor documented the visit on social media by sharing photos with employees at Renown Regional Medical Centre in Reno.
‘I got to revisit the amazing group of people who saved my life,’ he wrote alongside a snap of him with the medical staff, followed by several praying hands and red heart emoji.
Despite the anguish, Jeremy insists he has no regrets about the accident in which he saved his nephew’s life.
He’d do it again in a heartbeat.
In an interview with Diane Sawyer on ABC, he described being ‘awake for every second of the accident,’ stating it was “my mistake, and I paid for it.”
‘It’s exactly how you imagine it would feel,’ he said, adding: ‘It felt like someone took the wind out of you.’
Recalling the moments following the crush, Jeremy remembered looking at his leg in shock and thinking it was ‘going to be a problem’.
He added that while he can still be ‘triggered’ by memories of the accident, he refuses to be ‘haunted’ by it and has ‘no regrets’.
‘I would do it again.’ he said defiantly.
