US President Joe Biden pretty much declared his love for K-pop during his second in-person meeting with Korean President Moon Jae-In.
With many global issues at stake, there was a lot to discuss during their press conference, but Biden did find the time to share a more light-hearted matter that he obviously feels very strongly about.
He said: ‘And our people, our people-to-people and cultural connections are only growing. And K-pop fans are universal.’
As laughter began to erupt in the room, the President responded: ‘I can tell those who laugh know what I’m talking about. Anyway I’ll get back to that later.’
And of course, fans across social media have gone wild for this revelation, with one tweeting: ‘Joe biden said kpop this cannot be real.’
‘Not Joe Biden saying “KPOP IS UNIVERSAL,”’ another excitedly added.
Another referred to K-pop boyband BTS’ latest single Butter, as they wrote: ‘Joe Biden just talked about kpop during a press conference.

‘He knows Butter dropped today.’
So far, the new track from the band has proven to be a huge success so far, with its music video achieving over 100 million views on YouTube.

The boys – J-Hope, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, RM, Suga and V – are also set to take to the stage at Sunday’s Billboard Music Awards where they will host their debut performance of the song.
They are nominated for four categories at this year’s ceremony – top duo/group, top song sales artist, top social artist and top selling song.
Biden is the second foreign head of state to reference K-pop this week. On Friday (May 21), French president Emmanuel Macron asked the public on Twitter what their first purchase would be if they had 300 euros to spend on ‘books, music, films, exhibitions or concerts’, as part of a government initiative to boost cultural spending.
