Jonnie Irwin made the most of his time with his family by organising a fun movie night for his rambunctious youngsters.
Following his diagnosis with terminal cancer in 2020, the 49-year-old A Place in the Sun broadcaster has been sharing his struggle on social media.
After being told he had lung cancer and only had six months to live, the actor beat the odds and revealed publicly last November that the disease had moved to his brain.
He added that he was resolved to spend as much time as possible with his wife Jessica and his three boys, Rex, four, and twins Rafa and Cormac, three, since his health fight.
On Sunday, he kept his Instagram fans up to speed on the family’s Saturday night hijinks and shared an endearing glimpse inside their jam-packed movie night.
Watching children’s cartoons, the dad of three was filmed as he ran from one side of the room to the other, little ones in tow and could be heard exclaiming: ‘I’m getting tired now’.
He shared the clip with a caption that read: ‘Movie night ended with shuttle runs coached by @therealnihal . Felt more like a bleep test. #cbeebies #storytime #gingerbreadman.’
Captured by Jessica, the celebrity soon accepted defeat and sank onto the sofa to watch the lads finish their nighttime practise from the sidelines.
Fans raced to the comments section to express their love for the renowned family and to send Jonnie additional well-wishes.
One penned: ‘I’ve watched it 10 times. Beautiful Dad and gorgeous mini Jonnies.’
Another said: ‘This is beautiful to watch. Blessings,’ while a separate social media account added: ‘Your Family is Amazing Jonnie.’
To AIG Life’s The OneChat podcast, the host talked up about his terminal illness and disclosed his biggest fear.
He explained: ‘I didn’t take critical illness insurance out and therefore I had to keep working.
‘Without work, I’ve got no means of paying the bills. And if I had taken the critical illness insurance out, that could’ve covered my outgoings and I probably could’ve told the world [about his condition] a lot sooner.
‘I could’ve had two years of living a more open lifestyle. And I want people to learn from that mistake.
‘I think at the time I just thought I can better spend that money elsewhere. Where I don’t know. I’ve not frittered it away.
‘Maybe because I know what benefits it would have had, it just seems ridiculous that I didn’t.’
