Kate Garraway was seen heading to work on a chilly Monday morning after sharing her worries about husband Derek’s Covid-19 battle.
Derek has been in hospital since March 2020 after contracting the virus, believed to be one of the longest battles in the UK.
The TV star is trying to maintain normality by getting back to work and arrived at Global Radio Studios in London at the start of the week to host her programme.
She made sure she stayed warm, wearing a big pink furry coat over jeans and a black jumper.
The radio presenter carried her bag over one shoulder and a shopping back in another, also wearing a disposable face mask.
Good Morning Britain viewers were concerned last week after the presenter was missing from Friday’s episode, deciding to take a day’s annual leave.
It came days after she told podcast 5 Years Time that her family ‘don’t know how much he can recover’.
Derek is currently free of coronavirus but is still thought to be in a ‘state of minimal consciousness’ after emerging from a deeper coma last year.
He has been left with damage to his organs and Kate has been unable to visit him in hospital due to new restrictions during the ongoing pandemic.
The mum-of-two said: ‘The vaccine is here now, so everybody is hoping that will help Covid, I think, and help us regain some normality.
‘It’s been really tough for us. Derek got really sick in the beginning of March.’
Kate added: ‘Even though we’re hoping [he] can recover, it’s taking a very, very long time. We don’t know how much he can recover.
‘So that’s impacted on us obviously dramatically. So, it’s been really difficult.’
She added that being able to appear on Good Morning Britain and her radio show have been a welcome distraction from the difficulties in her personal life.
Kate praised her ITV co-star Ranvir Singh for her support as she turned to her for advice on parenting single-handed.
‘Ranvir has been really helpful because she’s been operating as a single mum since her son, Tushaan, was very little,’ Kate told Good Housekeeping.
‘I asked her, “How do you do it?” and she said, “You just have to accept that you can’t do everything.”’
