Katharine McPhee has revealed the name of her and David Foster’s baby son, and its ‘long history’ within her husband’s family.
The pair welcomed their little one in February this year, but have kept his name secret since.
The actress, 36, has now explained that they came up with the name while she was in labour, with David, 71, getting his sisters’ advice over text.
Speaking in an upcoming appearance on Today with Hoda and Jenna, Katharine said: ‘My husband probably will kill me for saying it, but his name is Rennie David Foster.
‘We picked Rennie because I’d actually been in labour for a while. We didn’t have a name picked out.
‘We had a couple names, but my husband was on a text chain with his sisters and one of his sisters suggested an old family name. It was his great-grandfather’s name, his great-uncle’s name, so it has a long history in his family. My husband said, “Hi, Ren Foster,” and so we said, “That’s a good name. It’s a strong name.”‘
She added that she’s been ‘in heaven’ as a new mother, describing the whole experience as ‘amazing’.
Rennie is Katharine’s first child, while David has five other children – daughters Amy, Erin, Sara, Jordan, and Allison.
Katharine and David, who tied the knot in 2019, announced they were expecting a baby in December.
The actress later opened up about having a boy, pointing out that she would have to teach him different things than she would a girl.
She told Roxy Manning and Tammin Sursok on their Women on Top podcast: ‘Now that I am having a boy, there are different things I need to worry about to teach him versus the things I would be thinking about with a girl.
‘But it’s kind of refreshing because I feel like I don’t need to think about those societal “this is the way you look.” I think men have different issues and different things to worry about.’
