Katharine McPhee has called out critics after her husband David Foster celebrated her bikini body with an Instagram post.
Katharine, 37, has said she ‘let her body do its thing’ after she gave birth following a swimsuit snap of her less than a year after she welcomed her first child.
The Smash actress, who married musician and producer David, 72, in 2019, gave birth to son Rennie David earlier this year.
Partner David, meanwhile, has five daughters – Allison, 51, Amy, 48, Sara, 40, Erin, 39, and Jordan 35 – and has been married five times. He also has seven grandchildren.
David drew criticism after he shared a photo of his wife in a black bikini captioned ‘What baby!’
Katharine, who has previously spoken about her experience with eating disorders, responded to the ‘haters’ who took offence, telling them to ‘get a life.’
Sharing a photo of herself in a red swimsuit, she said the response is ‘so dumb,’ adding: ‘I’m sorry but we are not sorry. And for all of you who can’t deal with it maybe this helps.
‘I’ve struggled with weight my whole 20s and 30. I’ve gone up and down 10 times over. Does that make you feel better? There is nothing wrong with that – most people do.’
She continued: ‘I lost this baby weight without dieting. Zero. Diets are the worst and I’ve had zero pressure from anyone.
‘I’ve let me body do its thing and found a great workout. That’s it. And guess what? I’ll probably gain weight again at some point too. Who cares?’
She said ‘people freaking out’ about her husband’s caption need to ‘stop being so offended by what people post who have zero impact on your life.’
‘Maybe you should have more of an attitude of like, let’s say … “Oh that’s nice he thinks his wife is hot.”‘
She signed off by stating she simply ‘cannot with this overly sensitive society right now’ before quoting the one and only Taylor Swift and her hit Shake it Off with ‘haters gonna hate.’
The star later promoted the pic on her story, saying it ‘felt good’ to get that off her chest.
Katharine was met with praise in the comments section, including a supportive comment from stepdaughter and TV writer Erin.
Erin wrote that ‘you can’t shame someone for feeling cute after a baby whether she’s sharing stretch marks or a six pack,’ urging fans to ‘let her live.’
Katharine and David married in London after Katharine finished a run in the West End in the lead role in the musical Waitress.
The couple were most recently unmasked as Banana Split on the US version of The Masked Singer, narrowly missing out on a place in the final.
