Kerry Katona asked daughter if she wanted to change her surname before going to new school

Kerry Katona has admitted she asked her daughter if she wanted to change her surname name before she started school.

The former Atomic Kitten singer – who has has Molly, 19, Lilly-Sue, 18, Heidi, 14, Max, 13, and DJ, seven, from previous relationships – has opened up on a conversation she had with Heidi when she was getting ready to work at a new school.

She wrote in her new! magazine column: ‘Heidi had her first day at her new school last week. She was really nervous, bless her.

‘I was worried about her making friends and asked her if she wanted to change her surname so people wouldn’t know she was my daughter, but she said she was proud to be a Katona!’

Kerry has moved up north with her fiancé Ryan Mahoney and admitted it’s been tough on her kids after they had to ‘leave their friends’.

She added: ‘I feel really bad for all the children. They’ve had to move up here and leave their friends. Lilly hasn’t met anyone yet because she hasn’t had a chance to get out and about. I just want them all to be happy.’

Meanwhile, her son DJ knows where he’ll be going next for school, and the 40-year-old star explained things are close to being ‘a lot more settled’.

She said: ‘It’s been a busy time. DJ has been accepted into a private school now, which is amazing. We’re just waiting to get Max into a school and then hopefully things will become a lot more settled.’

Although things are in a better place now, Kerry recently opened up on moving into the new home and admitted the situation had been “really stressful”.

She said in a recent column in new! magazine: ‘We’ve settled into the new house really well, but we still have so many boxes to unpack. Ryan still hasn’t slept here yet! He’s been down south sorting out the handover with the old house.

‘It’s just so beautiful – I still can’t believe we’ve got this house. The kids are loving it and it has such a homely feel. We’re renting it until January and if it all goes well, we’re hoping to buy it. We just want to make sure everything is all right in these next few months and that we’re all happy.

‘It’s been a really stressful week. It’s not just about physically moving house, it’s all the admin that comes with it, like registering for a new doctor, a new dentist and sorting out schools for the kids.’

In other news, Kerry has admitted she was ‘gutted’ not to be part of the recent Atomic Kitten reunion with former bandmates Liz McClaron, Natasha Hamilton and Jenny Frost for their Whole Again football fan anthem.

As the trio lapped up football fever with a Gareth Southgate-themed version of their noughties hit, Katona revealed she would have ‘loved to’ re-record it with them, telling fans she was ‘gutted’ not to have been asked.
