Kris Jenner appears to have indirectly defended her daughter Kim Kardashian, who is facing backlash for flying a large group of friends and family out to a private island to celebrate her 40th birthday last week.
Kim, who turned 40 on October 21, shared pictures yesterday from her exotic beach-themed birthday celebrations, which saw Kris and her boyfriend Corey Gamble, sisters Kourtney and Khloe Kardashian and Kendall Jenner, as well as celebrity pals like Lala Anthony in attendance.
Her younger sister Kylie Jenner was missing from the bash.
In the caption, Kim acknowledged how ‘humbled’ she was to be able to fly her party out when the rest of the country – and world – remain under tight lockdown restrictions, many unable to see family and friends.
Kris, 64, appears to have reacted to the drama in Kylie’s latest Instagram stories, and is heard saying off-camera: ‘I think that life is short and we have to live our best life and do things that we really wanna do in our lives because we don’t know how many more days are promised.’
In the photos, Kim is seen posing with her nearest and dearest with no social distancing and explained that she had asked everyone to quarantine before joining her on the mystery island.
‘40 and feeling so humbled and blessed,’ she began. ‘There is not a single day that I take for granted, especially during these times when we are all reminded of the things that truly matter.
‘For my birthday this year, I couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than with some of the people who have helped shaped me into the woman I am today. Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment.’
Explaining the health measures everyone took, Kim went on: ‘After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time.
‘We danced, rode bikes, swam near whales, kayaked, watched a movie on the beach and so much more.’ The mother-of-four then concluded: ‘I realise that for most people, this is something that is so far out of reach right now, so in moments like these, I am humbly reminded of how privileged my life is. #thisis40.’
It was thought that Kim’s husband Kanye West skipped the event but it’s now said he made a late arrival hence his absence from the photos.
Kim has been heavily criticised for the party, with one commenting: ‘Did the pandemic go away?! Omg wish someone would’ve told me we could have massive parties.’
Another wrote, ‘All I see if a whole bunch of people without masks standing around each other,’ and one disgruntled follower added: ‘Very selfish when people are dying and losing their jobs …. also doubt it very much that all 20+ people that attended isolated prior.’
One Twitter user weighed in: ‘I love how the elite don’t have to social distance OR wear masks 🙇🏻♀️ called it #hypocrites.’
