Leona Lewis has opened up about starting a family with husband Dennis Jauch and admits she would ‘very much like to adopt’.
The singer, 35, who is famed for winning the third series of The X Factor in 2006, married husband Dennis after nine years together in Italy in 2019.
Asked whether the couple would like children in the future, Leona revealed in a new interview that she and Dennis are keen to have a family, but have also spoken about adopting a child.
Leona explained that her mother grew up in a children’s home and her experience has inspired the Bleeding In Love hit-maker to consider adopting in the future.
‘I do want children, but Dennis and I have also talked about adopting,’ she told The Telegraph’s Stella magazine.
‘My mum grew up in a children’s home, no one adopted her as a child, and I would very much like to adopt.’
Leona added: ‘I’m still figuring things out. If it was up to my husband, we would have had kids yesterday.’
The star also shared her hopes of the couple spending Christmas with their parents either in England with Leona’s family or Germany with Dennis’ mum, but admitted that it may prove difficult given the coronavirus pandemic – especially as she’d be travelling from the US.
Leona, who appeared as a judge on spin-off X Factor: The Band, is based in Los Angeles after relocating to America when her music career took off.
At the beginning of lockdown, she and Dennis had just moved into their new home on a Californian ranch.
Leona did manage to visit family in the UK last month and recalled the emotional trip to fans on Instagram. She wrote: ‘Smiling on the inside 🌸 after 6 months I got to come home and be with my family and friends in London.
‘This is the longest time I’ve been apart from them and to say it’s been emotional is an understatement. My heart is with all those who still can’t be with loved ones, this year continues to be so challenging, I’m sending love and distanced hugs to you all ❤️.’
Since auditioning for The X Factor nearly 15 years ago, Leona has gone on to become the show’s second best-selling act having sold over 30million records worldwide.
One Direction sit at the top spot with 70million record sales to their name.
