Referring to the Best Song Ever video, where Niall Horan plays ‘Harvey, the Studio Exec’, Liam and director Ben Winston discussed how much times have changed since they made the video.
During an Instagram Q&A Ben said: ‘We couldn’t make that video these days. We based a character on Harvey Weinstein. Listen, he was just a famous guy…’
Liam added of the video, which was filmed over seven years ago: ‘I know, I often think about that. Jesus Christ.’
Niall is seen in the video dressed in a suit with grey hair and a beard as he yells: ‘I love the Direction! Hey, wise guy! Get outta my office!’
Besides Niall playing Harvey, the rest of One Direction also played caricatures of people in the industry, with Harry Styles as ‘Marcel the marketing guy;, Liam as ‘Leeroy the choreographer’, Louis Tomlinson as ‘Jonny, the Studio Exec’ and Zayn Malik dressed in female clothing as ‘the sexy assistant’.
Liam and Ben’s comments comes after the 68-year-old producer was sentenced to 23 years in prison in New York after being convicted of charges of rape and sexual assault.
He is also facing further charges involving five women in California stemming from allege incidents between 2004 and 2013.
After the allegations surfaced, over 100 women spoke out against Harvey Weinstein, who had formerly been one of the most successful movie producers in Hollywood, to allege of unwanted sexual encounters with him.
His second wife, Georgina Chapman, also left him amid the accusations and he was also expelled from the Academy of Motion Pictures, Arts and Sciences.
