Liam Payne is all for his One Direction comrade Harry Styles wearing a dress in Vogue, after the superstar’s groundbreaking cover caused some rather ridiculous controversy.
The Watermelon Sugar legend sported some cheeky Gucci on the cover of the December issue of the mag and had all sorts of people clutching their oversized pearls, with some calling it ‘unmanly’.
TBH, we couldn’t think of anything manlier than a confident lad donning whatever snazzy garments they desire – and Liam is also on board the idea.
Asked about who was on his naughty or nice list at Christmas this year, Liam responded to Mr Harry Styles’ name, when it was brought up by Roman Kemp.
Roman said on his Capital Breakfast show this morning: ‘Now I want to bring up someone whose had a bit of controversy this year recently about his Vogue cover, your former bandmate Harry Styles. Now Harry Styles, naughty or nice?’
‘Oh nice, nice, nice, nice,’ Liam responded without missing a beat.
He went on: ‘No for sure, he’s never really lost himself, even in spite of everything, after the band we didn’t speak for a long time actually and then I remember seeing him, it was actually at a Jingle Bell Ball, backstage for the first time in a long time, and he’s still the same guy he always was when we left each other in that dressing room as the band kind of stopped for a little bit.’
Roman went on: ‘I mentioned a second ago, he’s not someone to cause controversy. I mean kind of looking through this year was the most talked-about thing was his Vogue cover, and I mean his reaction to it was perfect “we need more manly men”. I mean what did you make of it when you saw him on the cover of Vogue?’
Sharing his response, the singer explained: ‘Oh I thought it was great, I think he’s enjoying himself and he’s free to do as he wishes and, you know, I just think that people don’t need to be so bothered about stuff.
‘There’s been a lot more stuff going on this year than whether or not he’s wearing the right clothes in someone else’s mind. Just let him go on with it, he’s enjoying himself.’
We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.
Mind you, Harry addressed the jibes perfectly, in a shoot in which he wore a powder blue blazer over a white frilled shirt, featuring pleated cuffs, and matching trousers.
Harry ate a banana in the picture, shot by Parker Woods for Variety, and captioned it: ‘Bring back manly men.’
We believe that’s what they call a mic drop.
Tune into Capital Breakfast with Roman Kemp, weekdays from 6am – 10am.
