To those who’ve doubted Lil Uzi Vert’s decision to get a $24 million (£17.3 million) diamond embedded into his forehead, he had a good reason: Getting a ring is even more of a ‘stupid’ idea, apparently.
The XO Tour Llif3 rapper recently unveiled his bold-faced piercing after months of teasing his plans to get the pink diamond implanted into the middle of his forehead.
Since then, Lil Uzi’s been mocked and memed to high heavens but he’s standing by his new look.
It did cost more than any of us will earn in a lifetime, after all.
The main question fans have had is: Why the forehead?
Well, Lil Uzi put them out of their misery and explained the interesting placement during an Instagram Q&A with Fat Joe this week.
The rapper said: ‘I’m Lil Uzi. I’m turnt up. So $24 million on a ring is the stupidest idea because I’m gonna look down and that ring ain’t gon’ be there … I know me. I wake up in odd places and different sceneries.’
Lil Uzi then insisted that it wasn’t a case of flashing his cash and the artist grabbing the piercing gun – he had to convince them he was really serious about it.
‘Don’t think it was just a ‘come on, let’s go get his money,’ the rapper explained.
‘No, bro, they argued me down. It’s almost insane to the average person, or to any person.’
It’s been a long, drawn-out process as Lil Uzi has been paying off the 10-11 carat diamond since 2017 and only made the final payment recently. Oh, and fear not, he has insurance.
The rapper, real name Symere Bisil Woods, recently defended the piercing and told his critics: ‘This is fashion.
‘I never cared about judgmental people on this earth … I always been alone …. this ain’t nothin new.’
First announcing the diamond piercing, Lil Uzi tweeted last year: ‘I’ve been paying for a natural pink diamond from Elliot for years now,’ in reference to celebrity jeweller Eliott Eliantte. ‘
‘This one Stone cost so much I’ve been paying for it since 2017. That was the first time I saw a real natural pink diamond. A lot of M’s in my face.’
Lil Uzi, 26, has other big plans for the future as he and Grimes have agreed to get brain chips together from her boyfriend Elon Musk’s company Neuralink.
