Fans have started petitions to get Rege-Jean into the spy’s tuxedo and bookies have slashed odds on him taking over from Craig, who will make his final appearance as Bond in No Time To Die.
London, 31, thinks her friend would do a brilliant job playing the famous British spy – the pair are former on-screen lovers after sharing a kissing scene in a Channel 4 drama which never aired.
Asked whether Rege-Jean should be cast as Bond, London told Metro.co.uk: ‘100%, he’s so talented. What’s crazy is we both started out at the same time and we were on this Channel 4 pilot called Space Ark. He played my love interest and it never got made.
‘Imagine having the Duke of Hastings and the princess of comedy on a TV show together and it never got made. Channel 4 should be kicking themselves,’ she laughed.
London continued: ‘I met him then on-set and I thought he was super talented then and I think he’s exceptional in Bridgerton.
‘So I definitely think he could be the next Bond. [He’s] definitely got the charm.’
Rege-Jean addressed the mounting Bond speculation earlier this month and admitted he was flattered to be put in the same space as Idris Elba and Tom Hardy who were past favourites.
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Rege-Jean said: ‘I think the internet thinks a lot of things, and that’s one of the more pleasant ones.
‘I think there might be an element of cultural translation to be done here. Like if you’re a Brit, and you do something of any kind of renown that people regard well, then people start saying the “B” word.’
The Sylvie’s Love actor added: ‘I’m very, very glad to have the badge. I’m glad to be in such wonderful company of people who have the badge. But it’s a badge.’
Meanwhile, London is also making waves across the pond after releasing her first comedy special, To Catch A D**k, on Netflix last month.
