Love Island’s Demi Jones has said she’s ‘overwhelmed’ with supportive messages after explaining that she’ll have to have a lump removed, due to it being potentially cancerous.
The star, who appeared on series six of the dating show, broke down in tears on her Instagram Stories.
She said: ‘I went to go get the results today for my lump and they think it could be cancerous. I’ve got to go have it operated and removed.’
‘I’m worried, but I’m sure it will be fine,’ she added. ‘It’s just a shock because you just don’t think. I was sat there in the waiting room and it was full of old people and I was the only young one there.
‘I know loads of women go through this so I’ll be fine. It might not even be cancerous.
‘They’ve got to cut it out to be sure. I’m just a bit shocked at the moment. I’ll be ok, I’ll get it removed and I should be fine.’
Following her video, Demi has received an outpouring of love, with some people even telling her she’s encouraged them to get appointments about lumps they’ve found.

Sharing a clip of herself smiling at the camera, she wrote on Instagram: ‘I am so overwhelmed with support!
‘I had thousands of kind messages yesterday. I’m so glad people have told me it’s made them get/chase appointments for their lumps!
‘I feel positive today. Thank you.’
Demi had previously encouraged people not to put off appointments, and to keep pushing if they feel something’s not right.
She wrote on Instagram: ‘Please don’t put off getting lumps checked. If appointments keep getting cancelled then you need to chase it up.

‘I was supposed to have this appointment six months ago. At my scan they said “everything looks fine” and went to send me on my way.
‘I challenged it and asked if they could do more, in which they said “oh well we can test the fluid if you want us to?”
‘Thank god I asked as it was the fluid that came back potentially cancerous. Always push!’
Demi rose to fame on the 2020 winter series of Love Island, coupling up with Luke Mabbott.
However, the pair later split, after growing apart during lockdown.
‘Unfortunately me and Luke have gone our separate ways now,’ Demi confirmed to Metro.co.uk at the time.
‘It is a shame because he is a lovely boy and we’re all amicable and friendly, but unfortunately when we came out of the villa I realised my energy wasn’t being reciprocated with Luke on effort levels and such.’
She added: ‘We drifted [apart] and obviously we’re so far away in lockdown which is a shame, but I wish him all the best.’
