The 27-year-old appeared on the ITV dating show this summer and found love with fellow islander Tyler Cruickshank, with the couple narrowly missing out on winning after making it to the final.
Kaz’s Love Island journey may have ended in her successfully finding romance, but it was actually one of the last things on her mind before going into the villa.
Like many women of colour would understand, she had to think about how she would manage her hair if she ended up staying the entire series, which she did.
Speaking on the Black Gals Livin’ podcast, Kaz revealed: ‘I was more anxious about hair than even [conversing] with guys. I’m not a hairdresser, number one. Make-up I wasn’t really worried about…
‘Hair I was very conscious about. [Going in with] natural hair for me personally was not an option because I knew we were going to be doing challenges and, I’m sorry, but how am I getting into the pool, just sorting my hair out, do I have wash days? No I don’t.’
Braids weren’t an option for Kaz as she was concerned about them growing out and getting messy quickly.
The influencer praised the Love Island team for supporting her before going into the villa, and revealed they even paid for three of her wigs.
‘The producers, when I was going in, they were like “do you have any worries?” and I was like, “Yeah, my hair”,’ she said. ‘I’m scared of becoming a meme, I’m scared of too much dragging – I expected some kind of dragging when it came down to wigs but I’m not going to be on top form everyday I’m there, it’s unrealistic.’
‘The producers are not the enemy because in there, they were genuinely really helpful,’ she stated.
Kaz did eventually become a meme and viral sensation but for all the right reasons as viewers fell in love with her bedtime style – rocking a protective hair bonnet in every colour to match each of her pyjama sets.
The social media star – who was an influencer prior to going on Love Island – has received plenty of work opportunities since leaving the villa, including a lucrative deal with lingerie brand Boux Avenue.
She and Tyler made their relationship official soon after the series ended but have stated they are taking it slow.
