After getting into the final of the ITV2 series, the pair were forced to spend five days apart due to government regulations amid the pandemic.
However, the footballer – who has been unveiled as the newest ambassador for boohooMAN – explained that they couldn’t deal with just catching up over FaceTimes, and took their relationship up a notch.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk ahead of the launch of his first ‘going out’ collection for the fashion brand, he opened up about how wild it has been upon their homecoming.
‘Nothing can prepare you for what happens, so we’ve just been living our lives in a bubble, just going about our daily routines,’ he told us.
‘‘Everyone’s seen it [Love Island] so everyone feels like they know you, but you don’t know them. It’s like a one-sided relationship almost. It’s just getting your head around it… But the support has been mad, it’s so positive so I’m so lucky, and so happy.’
Lifting the lid on how their relationship has grown outside of the villa, Toby continued: ‘I had to five-day isolate, Chloe had to five-day isolate. After that I was like, “I can’t even do this”.
‘So I basically moved in with her, and I was like, I can’t have that five day isolation again. It’s too stressful. I can’t be FaceTiming you when I’ve been around you for eight weeks now, so I moved in with her.
‘Obviously having it [where] you’re next to someone, it’s completely different than just being on the phone.
‘[With] the other Islanders, it’s hard to meet up with them as well because everyone’s busy and everyone’s got different schedules, and doing different things. But here and there you find the time which is nice, to have a nice little catch up.’
Toby has worked hard in the few weeks that he has been back home, and has been named the new ambassador for boohooMAN.
He will be the face of the brand’s latest going-out campaign, and has hand-picking his own edit for the collection, with T-Shirts, cargo trousers and the dreamiest bomber jackets.
Spilling on the beans on their collaboration, he added: ‘Everyone is getting back to the clubs now, after Covid-19, after a rough year with no going out. What’s the best thing to do now? It’s going out. We can’t be wearing the clothes pre-Covid, can’t we?
‘We’ve got to make new clothes, so we’ve got new clothes coming out.
‘I’m really excited to be working with boohooMAN. The brand strives to be the best and that’s exactly what motivates me.’
We can’t wait to see more.
