Lucy Mecklenburgh hits back at trolls calling her ‘irresponsible’ mother as she breastfeeds baby Roman

Lucy Mecklenburgh has revealed the extent of the mum-shaming trolling she’s received since welcoming son Roman, including being called an ‘irresponsible’ mother.

The former Towie star gave birth to her first child with fiance Ryan Thomas in March and has offered a refreshingly honest look at the realities of becoming a first-time mum through her social media posts, such as the struggles with breastfeeding.

However, it has also garnered negative attention from trolls who have criticised Lucy’s parenting of nine-month-old Roman.

Opening up to Results Wellness Lifestyle magazine, Lucy said: ‘I’ve climbed a mountain, cycled part of the Tour de France, survived 30 days on a deserted island, but breastfeeding and being a new mum has been the hardest and most rewarding thing I’ve ever done.

‘I hadn’t done a lot of research on breastfeeding beforehand, which I regret, but the lack of sleep and the extreme highs and extreme lows of the hormones were a rollercoaster for me.’

The 29-year-old explained how she used to brush off social media trolling but changed her approach when her parenting came under attack.

‘I’ve had people call me an “irresponsible mum” or “disgusting” for breastfeeding in public,’ Lucy revealed.

‘It’s constant and I just can’t help but respond. I’ll write back and say “Do you eat pizza in the toilet of the restaurant? No? Then why should my baby”.

‘The attitude towards breastfeeding in the UK needs to change.’

Shortly after giving birth, Lucy admitted she wasn’t fully ‘prepared’ for the gruelling moments that would sometimes come with being a mum to a newborn baby.

‘I’m so grateful to have a happy, healthy baby boy and wouldn’t change it for the world but motherhood is tough the tiredness, tears & mum guilt I don’t think I was fully prepared for and I wish more people showed the happy times and the tough times,’ she told her Instagram followers.

‘To all fellow mummas you are beyond amazing superhuman machines. This is for sure the hardest but most rewarding job that exists.’
