According to reports, Madonna was pushing herself to the limit right up until her shocking hospitalisation with a “severe bacterial illness.”
The superstar’s tour has been cancelled after the 64-year-old was discovered unconscious and transported to urgent care, with his family prepared for the worst.
She was at Long Island’s Nassau Coliseum for extensive rehearsals for her Celebration Tour, and a source revealed the Queen of Pop was working ’12-hour days’ on the greatest hits performance.
‘She had been putting in 12-hour days. She was strenuously rehearsing and putting in the work,’ an insider told Page Six.
Madonna is thought to have gotten the virus on June 24, while she had to be intubated and is currently under medical treatment, she is claimed to be ‘improving’.
Her tour was supposed to begin on Saturday, July 15, hitting venues across the United States before heading to Europe and the United Kingdom later this year.
Leon Lourdes, the Vogue hitmaker’s 26-year-old daughter, is said to have been by her side during the trauma.
Understandably, the tour has been cancelled, and Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary, 50, sent an update to fans on Wednesday through Instagram.
‘On Saturday June 24, Madonna developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU,’ he wrote.
‘Her health is improving, however, she is still under medical care.’
Guy informed supporters that Madonna’s team anticipated her to make a “full recovery,” but that they were suspending “all obligations” until the singer felt better.
This included her nearly sold-out Celebration tour, which she was ready to go on.
He also promised fans more information and rescheduled tour dates would follow soon, adding: ‘We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.’
According to Page Six, Madonna was treated at a hospital in New York City on Saturday.
According to a source, she was intubated for at least one night before the tube was withdrawn, but she is now “awake and recuperating.”
Madonna revealed earlier this year that she will embark on her Celebration tour to commemorate her 40th year in the music industry.
The diva rocketed to prominence in 1983 with her tune Holiday, which stormed the US Billboard Hot 100, and has since gone on to have countless successes and is the all-time bestselling female music artist.
Madonna revealed in July that being on stage was her “happy spot” and that she was a “creature of the stage.”
Her 84-city global tour was set to begin on July 15 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, and she has kept fans up to speed by posting photographs and videos from her rehearsals online.
Madonna captioned one of her recent Instagram photos of herself prepping for the Celebration shows, ‘Calm before the storm…’
